Last night, the carpet guy came. He was a bit dismayed about the revelation of the tile, but bravely pressed on. He also installed all our baseboard trim (that we had already cut to fit & painted), since he's such a nice guy. It took him about 3.5 hours to do the whole thing, and we are so happy to have it done! We figure that materials + labor (for the carpet install only) cost us a bit under $400... or about $3.50 per square foot. Total bill for the room is coming in somewhere between $700 and $1000 - not bad considering we replaced nearly every piece of trim (only exceptions: the windowsill and the doors), and the difference is like night and day.
Tonight, we nail up the window trim, touch up the paint, and put outlet covers back on; at least one outlet still needs to be rewired to actually have a ground wire, but that will wait a few days.
Then we move stuff in the room.. yay!
We've started talking about a "6-month housewarming party", to be held sometime in November/December. By then, we should have everything really looking homey and usable. :)
